Livia's Weekend Project

Livia's latest project at school was to create a "shoebox habitat" of her choosing.  She wanted to do a coral reef, so after some research we found some plants and animals she wanted to include:  clown fish, anemones, coral, a puffer fish, a sea turtle.  Putting these together required

  1.  One trip to Michael's
  2. (Two coupons--yaay!)
  3. Three (+) hours on Saturday (-ish--I really didn't keep track of the time)
  4. Four darling fish (two clown fish, one puffer, one yellow tang . . . oh crap, we did schooling jack fish too . . . but there's a lot of them, so total fish is 24)
  5. Five sea plants (one plumose anemone, one sea anemone, one cauliflower coral, one red coral, and one brain coral--I learned a lot this weekend!)
  6. Six sides of the box covered (dark blue outside, light blue inside, cellophane covering the front and sides, questionnaire and research paper on the back)
  7. Seven animals total (four fish plus an octopus, a camouflaged sea horse (can you find him?) and a sea turtle swimming up by the top of the water)
  8. Lots of paint, pipe cleaners, feather boas, Crayola's Model Magic (new fave!), construction paper, sharpies, and guess what the sand is??? bread crumbs!
and the finished project looks like this:

you can see the sea horse and the clown fish better here:

Fun, huh?  Livia and I had a blast putting it all together, but I'll tell you this--
I can wait a while for the next project!
